Stechford retail park reducing crime and aggressive begging

Issue Date Tuesday 14th May 2024

Stechford Retail Park – The Stechford and North Yardley Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are aware of an increase in retail crime (reflecting what is a national trend) along with anti-social behaviour and aggressive begging. Our intention is to maintain a visible presence to deter retail crime offender as well reviewing crime reports to identify serial offenders and therefore reduce demand. Maintaining a visible presence also allows us to engage with those causing anti-social behaviour; we can then identify any root causes and deal with them through target hardening, civil interventions and referrals to partner agencies for support.

Action Date Tuesday 14th May 2024

Off road motorbikes / anti-social behaviour

Issue Date Tuesday 14th May 2024

Off Road Motorbikes – The Stechford and North Yardley NPT are also aware that anti-social behaviour involving off road motorbikes can be a seasonal issue. Whilst neighbourhood officers are not able to pursue off road motorbikes, we look to gather evidence and intelligence retrospectively and, where possible, robustly investigate any criminal or civil matters. The team are looking to work closer with partners including the West Police Midlands Police Off Road Motorbike Team and the Local Authority to maintain a visible presence and protect any vulnerable locations.

Working with partners to help neighbours resolve ongoing and complex neighbour issues

Issue Date Tuesday 14th May 2024

Neighbour Disputes – Unfortunately neighbour disputes are becoming increasingly common within Stechford and North Yardley. Neighbour disputes can be extremely sensitive issues that can cause long term distress for those involved. Our team work hard to maintain an independent position and ensure our actions are fair, proportionate and consistent. In the first instance we look to identify any root causes and resolve them in partnership with the Local Authority, housing providers etc. Proven tactics include mediation, restorative justice, good neighbour agreements and Community Protection Warnings.
