About Crime Check UK

Since 2011, crime data for England and Wales has been published by the police at police.uk. The official police website allows you to view crime details for your local area and find out information about your local police force.

However, the official police website only shows crime statistics grouped by local policing neighbourhoods. It doesn't allow you to view statistics for your town, your city or your county.

That's where Crime Check UK comes into it. We collect and collate the crime figures published by the police, and analyse them by local authority boundaries rather than police boundaries.

Because that's more meaningful to most people. You know which town or city you live in, you probably know which council ward you live in. But, without looking it up, you don't know your local police neighbourhood.

And police neighbourhoods aren't always a useful geographic area anyway. They're designed for the convenience of the police, and not for the convenience of the public. Local authority boundaries, on the other hand, are designed as far as possible around people and their communities.

This website is still a work in progress, and more features will be added to it as time goes on.

In case you were wondering, we've got a separate page which answers the question, "Why not Scotland?".
