Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Neighbourhood Priorities

Anti-social behaviour

Issue Date Tuesday 21st May 2024

This remains to be a high priority and over the past six months the team have used a wide range of tools designed to help combat Anti Social Behaviour (ASB). Some of these include obtaining a Closure Order for a residential property; preventing individuals from visiting and disrupting the community and the issuing of community resolutions to individuals that have committed ASB related crimes. These community resolutions have resulted in offenders apologising for their actions and taking part in diversion schemes to prevent re offending in the future. We have responded to local complaints of youths congregating in parks within the town itself and its surrounding villages and added these locations into our patrol plans. This has led to many positive interactions with the youths gaining perspectives into what can be implemented to dissuade them from partaking in ASB activities. The team have been successful in obtaining a conviction for a Breach of a Community Protection Order this is a first for the Neighbourhood teams across the South and Vale since the implementation of the legislation.

Engagement with young people.

Issue Date Tuesday 21st May 2024

The team are committed to increasing the positive engagement they have with the town’s younger community, as it is recognised across Policing that there is an increase in crime committed by younger people. The team have been working alongside statutory and third-sector organisations in order to introduce a youth provision to the town itself and those villages that surround it. As a result of this work there is now a dedicated youth support worker whose main focus will be to engage with the youths in the area and see what can be introduced to the town to help dissuade them from acting out in the community. The team have been providing support and guidance to the Local Council in regards to up and coming projects in the area that will better the communal use spaces within the town. The team have a strong relationship with the schools in the area and provide support to staff and the students that attend where needed, making it a safer environment for all.
