Burglary

Burglary continues to be highlighted as an area of concern by local residents and there has been an increase in burglary which police have responded to.
In December 2023, a new operation was launched to increase a police presence in targeted hotspot areas across Northampton in response to reported burglary offences, the majority of these targeted the Eastern District of Northampton. The operation has been set up in order to assist in the reduction of offences within the area. These patrols have taken place at key times and days, with officers dedicated to increasing a police presence in areas that require reassurance, high visibility, and crime prevention, in line with analytical data produced by Northamptonshire Police. We have also targeted key nominals with an offending history of burglary through a number of disruption visits.
Two significant suspects were disrupted which has already shown an impact within NN3 and further disruption continues. One male known to police for burglary offences was also recalled back to prison and arrested by officers working under this operation.
The Neighbourhood Team continue to hold Beat Bus surgeries in areas affected by burglary to reach residents in person. The local Neighbourhood Team have always conducted reassurance visits to all victims of burglaries to offer them further crime prevention or target hardening advice, and signposting for extra support, as required, as well as utilising Northamptonshire Talking to liaise with affected communities.

Drug Dealing and Drug Misuse

Your Neighbourhood Policing Team have conducted welfare checks on multiple vulnerable persons linked to drugs in Northampton. These were to offer vulnerable persons support as a police force, to provide education around their homes being used by drug dealers, and to refer them onto services that can provide rehabilitation support. Homes of vulnerable persons are often used to store and sell drugs by drug dealers, often against the homeowners will.
There have been numerous arrests using information and intelligence, preventing criminals from continuing to commit crime. In various locations, including Wellingborough Road, Eastfield Park, The Racecourse, and Market Square, our aim is to deny criminals the ability to deal drugs in public spaces where local residents live or spend leisure time. This has resulted in numerous persons, aged between 15 and 36 years, either being charged with drug related offences or bailed whilst further enquiries are carried out.
A Section 23 MDA warrant was completed on Rothersthorpe Road, NN in December, resulting in a cannabis factory being located. Two suspects were arrested and charged/remanded.

Road Safety and Road Traffic Offences

Your Neighbourhood Policing Team have conducted numerous operations across Northampton to tackle poor driving, motoring offences, and to make the roads safer. Our activity has been focused on the ‘Fatal Four’ which includes:
- Excess speed
- Mobile phone use
- Impairment (drink and drugs)
- Not wearing a seat belt
These are issues that statistically contribute the most to deaths on the roads.
We have attended various residents’ association meetings to spread the road safety message, particularly around schools. This message was also distributed to all schools in Northampton to be passed on to all the parents and carers of their pupils.
During December we delivered a road safety input to 230 pupils at Hardingstone Primary School. This covered the green cross code, safe places to cross, staying safe in the car and on bicycles, and we sought funding from Brackmills BID for £250 in order to purchase high visibility packs for each child. These packs consisted of a hi vis band, keyrings and stickers.
During September we completed a speed enforcement activity on Salthouse Road, following concerns being raised in relation to vehicles driving dangerously and in excess speed at this location. However, as a result of the enforcement activity, only one vehicle was identified driving above 30mph (driving at 34mph) – they were given words of advice. During this activity an e-scooter was also seized for no insurance. As part of the wider problem around the complaints received on Salthouse Road, we have worked closely with partners such as Highways and the Brackmills BID, and funding has been obtained for traffic calming measures to be installed.
Operation Snap has also been promoted.
