Road Safety & Road Traffic Offences

Issue Date Friday 1st December 2023

Dec - Mar
A large amount of work has been done to tackle issues surrounding road safety and the respective
traffic offences. Speeding remains a concern among our communities. We have carried out checks and
enforcement in many areas and this has led to positive action to deter further offending. It is
worth noting that on some of our check periods, hundreds of vehicles’ speed have been measured and
none were found to have been over the limit.
Multiple recoveries of vehicles have been seized for various offences, including no insurance, tax
and moving traffic offences. Furthermore, multiple summons to court have been submitted for
offences.
In December, the Force’s Roads Policing Unit carried out two days of action in the Daventry area.
This resulted in 60 vehicle stops, 19 tickets issued and 9 vehicle seizures. A further stolen
vehicle was also recovered. Given the geographical area of Daventry, neighbourhood officers are
often called upon to attend road traffic collisions, broken down vehicles and other
incidents on the roads in the area.
We continue to utilise legislation to tackle anti-social driving, including use of
un-licensed e-scooters. S59 warnings are
increasingly being employed to tackle these issues and a number of vehicles have been seized.

Drug Dealing & Misuse

Issue Date Friday 1st December 2023

Dec - Mar
We continually receive information from you, the public, regarding drug activity and dealing in our
communities. This is vital in order to build a picture of what is happening. If we do
not know about it, we cannot tackle it. Officers in the Neighbourhood Policing Team have
stop & searched a number of individuals using legislation. Drugs have been seized and relevant
disposals have been issued.
Intervention work has also been carried out with youths who have either been found
with illicit substances or at risk of becoming users. This early intervention aims to prevent
further usage and any future criminality which is often the result. A number of Misuse of Drugs Act
Warrants have been sworn out with Magistrates and executed across Daventry and the wider area,
including in Long Buckby, the Southbrook estate and within central Daventry itself. These have
resulted in a number of
arrests, disposals and ongoing investigations into serious offences such as possession with intent
to supply class A drugs.

Road Safety & Rad Traffic Offences, Vehicle Crime, Burglary

Action Date

Road Safety and Road Traffic Offences

Issue Date Tuesday 1st August 2023

Aug - Nov
Our focus on road safety continues from previous months. Our team have been out and about using the speed gun to provide a visible deterrent and enforce speed limits. Over this period, speed checks have been carried out in several locations including Maidwell, Lamport, Daventry Town, Brixworth and various other villages across the district. This is in addition to the work of our forces’ Safer Roads Team who deploy the safety camera vans across the county and continue to enforce on our area.

We have been delivering road safety inputs to all age groups in Byfield, Badby, Daventry and a number of other schools accross the area. This practical engagement teaches pupils safe crossing of roads and some awareness of the highway code. This is in addition to our regular patrols of schools at opening and closing times, in order to prevent parking issues.

Another ‘OP METHANE’ day of action took place in September at Crick, with 42 vehicles being stopped and checked. 15 vehicles were fully compliant with all legislation and weight requirements. 27 vehicles were dealt with for driving with no insurance, no license, using a mobile phone, defective tyres and a range of other road traffic offences.

Our team continue to provide high visibility patrols accross the district in our fleet of marked vehicles, stopping persons and vehicles when appropriate. This has led to numerous vehicle recoveries in Watford, Woodford Halse, Daventry and Kilsby. These were for offences including driving with no insurance and driving without a license.

Action Date Tuesday 12th December 2023

Burglary

Issue Date Tuesday 1st August 2023

Aug - Nov
Burglary of both residential and business property has remained a priority for the area. We remain committed to attending all residential burglaries and support the forces response teams by completing follow up crime prevention visits and conducting house-to-house enquiries when offences take place.

Two schools in Moulton reported being the victim of burglaries in this period and these offences were investigated by the neighbourhood team. The offenders identified on CCTV have been dealt with and referred to our youth offending team for suitable outcomes in relation to those offences.

As we move into the darker months, with a seasonal increase in burglary offences anticipated, our officers are continuing patrols in any areas identified as hotspot locations and providing crime prevention advice to residents.

Action Date Tuesday 12th December 2023

Vehicle Crime

Issue Date Tuesday 1st August 2023

Aug - Nov
Our third priority this period was vehicle crime. We have seen an increase in this type of offending across the area with offences taking place in a number of the parishes. Thieves often target insecure vehicles or those expected to contain high value items such as tools.

Following analysis of the offences reported we have a been completing increased patrols in areas that have been impacted by these crimes along with assistance from both our response and operations teams to target this type of offending, this will continue over the winter months.

We have been visiting the victims of theft from motor vehicle offences and obtaining ring doorbell and CCTV footage to assist with the investigation of these crimes. We have also been offering safety tips and reassurance.

The team continue to use the Northamptonshire Talking messaging service to inform residents where these offences have taken place and share crime prevention advice.

Action Date Tuesday 12th December 2023
