This neighbourhood beat covers the villages of Blaby, Whetstone, Glen Parva and Cosby.

The area is largely residential and includes a number of educational and licensed premises, as well as a busy town centre.

Neighbourhood Priorities

We have received reports of ASB related behaviour. Behaviour regularly coincides with the use of motorcycles/mopeds/e-scooters.

This past month has seen a few reports of off-road style motorbikes riding around the Cambridge Road area of Cosby and also through Lutterworth Road, Blaby. Patrols have been done in recent hotspot areas to try and catch the riders involved. The beat team continue to follow up on inquires to identify the riders and deal with them under out ASB powers.

Road safety has been raised around speeding issues and road traffic collisions within the area. Hotspots have been identified on Enderby Road, Whetstone, Blaby Bypass and Cambridge Road, Cosby.

Last month the beat team issues 2 section 59 warning to individuals who were caught on CCTV doing donuts. The first occasion a car went into a car park on Warwick Road, Whetstone midafternoon performing donuts whilst users of the facility were around. On the second occasion 2 individuals were seen on 3 evenings wheel spinning and skidding around Oakfield Park car park.

Now the warmer weather is with us we are seeing more reports of cars speeding in the vicinity of the by-pass. We haven’t seen any organised meets and from reports appear to be cars passing through and not staying for very long. The beat team and specialist departments continue to patrol at key times that have been reported to us. In April the speed van visited the Blaby by Pass for a total of 2½ hours and captured 5 vehicles in excess of the speed limit. They also visited Croft Road in Cosby for 1½ hours where by 3 vehicles were captured.

A range of anti-social behaviours have been reported to the beat team across the areas. Behaviours such as damage to equipment, graffiti, vehicular nuisance, loud music and rowdy youths.

With the warmer weather coming through the beat team have seen an increase in vehicular nuisance reports. Particularly with motorbikes and high-powered vehicles. Two vehicles were identified over the last month and the drivers dealt with through s59 Police reform act powers for anti-social driving.
