Neighbourhood Priorities

You said tackle reports of illegal drug use. Residents had reported suspected drug use – in particular reports of the smell of cannabis impacting neighbouring properties.

Issue Date Thursday 7th December 2023

Police regularly conduct drug-related enforcement action, such as arrests, use of stop and search powers and warrants at addresses suspected of being involved in the supply of illegal drugs. Officers also work with partner agencies to close down addresses that are suspected of being involved in drug crime or associated anti-social behaviour. This means that the property cannot be used or inhabited for a set period, and it is a criminal offence for people to do so.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicions they have. It may appear that police do not act immediately on reports received, however all reports are reviewed and are fed into intelligence work done to tackle the drug trade in the local area. This ultimately results in significant investigative work to charge and convict those suspected of drug-related crime.
