Thornhill is recognised as an area of social deprivation, it was one of 39 areas around the country chosen in 1999 for the New Deal for Communities. This is controlled by a board of 12 local residents and 8 representatives of relevant agencies (Police, Primary Health Care, City Council, Chamber of Commerce etc.) and is now known as Plus You Limited which had almost £50 Million pounds to invest in the area over a 10 year period that came to end in 2010.
As part of the redevelopment the construction for the new Eastpoint Centre in Burgoyne Road, in Thornhill began in 2010. The centre was completed earlier this year in 2011. A hub for businesses and communities in the city It will boast the latest business conference facilities in a three-storey 3,770 sq m development. There will also be training space for businesses and meeting rooms for community groups, a social club and a restaurant area.

Over the last 3 months the NPT have been focussing on the issue of Drug activity and Drug related violence across the neighbourhood. We have two operations which are Operation Fortify and Operation Lux, Fortify focusses on both Safeguarding Vulnerable people and addresses and LUX is the enforcement activity.
PACT meeting on 19th April 2018 and those attending have all agreed that this should remain a community priority for the next 3 months.
