Neighbourhood Priorities
TUNES IN THE DUNES
"The local neighbourhood policing team are readying themselves for the TUNES IN THE DUNES FESTIVAL on PERRANPORTH beach 17-19th MAY 2024. Additional police resources are drafted into the area to provide a high visibility presence and offer reassurance to the local community during the weekend family orientated music event. This includes dedicated members of the Special Constabulary for whom we are extremely grateful for their support and road traffic policing units who will patrol the local area targeting driving offences. Previous years have shown very low crime records linked to this event. The police work in conjunction with the event organisers and site security to ensure the safety of festival attendees and to minimise the impact of such a large scale event on the local community. Police officers will be out and about on foot well into the early hours of the morning on all three evenings, engaging with the visitors and looking to deter and prevent any anti -social behaviour or criminal activity."

FEARLESS is a dedicated youth service which forms part of Crimestoppers but is aimed at 11-18 year olds. Mithian Primary School
On Monday 29th January 2024 PCSO Conway & PCSO Sleeman attended Mithian School and attended their assembly to talk about "the rule of law" and emotional intelligence. We also spoke about our jobs and what it entails. This was received really well by the children.

Neighbourhood Pop Up
Tomorrow, Wednesday 24th January, your local Perranporth Neighbourhood Team shall be conducting a pop up at The Miners & Mechanics Community Centre from 10am until 12 noon.

Local Youth Engagement
Engaging with local youths with early intervention and referrals is a key part of neighbourhood policing. There has been an increase in reports of young persons involved in suspected substance misuse in the ST AGNES / MOUNT HAWKE areas in recent months. The team will work with local youth organisations and educational establishments to tackle drug use, identify those involved in the supply chain and ensure safeguarding of those involved as a priority with prosecution often as a last resort.

Tri Service Safety Officer
Tri Service Safety Officer (TSSO) Phil GRAHAM has been joined in recent weeks in the Perranporth area by his colleague TSSO Ollie VIGO. (Not to be confused with Vigo Von Homburg Deutsschendorf from Ghostbusters 2!)
Together they have been busy attending incidents and providing vital support to our emergency services. They have attended multiple ambulance calls, completed domestic premise risk reduction visits, which help to safeguard the most vulnerable members of the community, and provided operational cover for the local fire station, keeping the fire engine available for a multitude of emergencies.

Dwelling Burglary St Newlyn East
A recent dwelling burglary in ST NEWLYN EAST is currently being investigated, whereby a vulnerable person living alone has experienced a break in to her property during daylight hours.
These incidents are fortunately very rare in our force area, but non the less, the impact of such an invasive crime can be huge.
The occupier is being supported by a close nit community, friends and victim care.
Local officers are increasing patrols in the area and would like to remind local people to be vigilant with their home security and to report any suspicious activity via 999.

School Patrols Perranporth
The local team at PERRANPORTH have see a busy but well spirited Christmas and new year. With the children back at school, officers are increasing patrols during the key times and asking parents and carers to park safely with due consideration to other road users.
Tackling speeding vehicles around our schools will always be a priority and enforcement will take place where necessary. Should members of the public wish to get involved with local community speed watch groups please make contact Community Speedwatch Online.

Premises Closure
On the 31st August, Truro Anti Social behaviour Officer along with Truro, Perranporth and Tregony Police, LiveWest housing officers have made an application to close a property for a period of three months within the Truro area.
This property has been the source of anti-social behaviour for over 4 years and the local community have been subject to living in fear for their safety.
The resident has been engaged with by various partners to rectify the situation and bring peace to the neighbourhood but sadly the individual concerned was unwilling to engage.
The decision to close the property was not made lightly but magistrates have seen fit to close the property to all occupiers.
Safer Cornwall partnership hope this will restore peace to the area and other residents respite whilst encouraging the resident to address their behaviours.

Neighbourhood Watch Newsletter
We are approaching the summer which can be one of our busiest times. The nicer weather and increase in visitors can impact on the level of our demands. Hopefully people will continue to see more officers ‘out and about’ on the streets; that’s one of my priorities for the policing sector. As some may know we received additional funding for proactive patrols through the Safer Streets Funding programme. That’s enabled us to put officers out on patrol with the aim to improve on our visibility, reduce ASB and associated crimes and in turn reassure the public so they feel safe. We’ve another pot of additional funding coming for the summer. Our intention is to spend that on more foot patrols in our open spaces, such as beaches, parks and gardens. Truro is in a fairly healthy position in respect of staffing levels when considering the workforce design. Our patrol teams are at a reasonable level and we will continue to welcome new officers into the sector, partly as a result of the general uplift. I’d encourage people to continue to look after each other and report any concerns to the police, or other agency if another is more appropriate. We have a new website, which is a good way to contact us, including to report concerns as well as dropping us a line of thanks!

Operation Loki
NEIGHBOURHOOD police in Truro have launched a new operation as part of its work to keep the county one of the safest places in the country. Operation Loki launched in Truro on 17 April and is currently ongoing.
The operation will run for four weeks in the location and will highlight policing tactics including high-visibility patrols, schools prevention activity, traffic operations, surveys and community engagement.
This is to enhance the vital work our neighbourhood policing teams are doing every day. Our neighbourhood policing teams will be targeting areas of concern and responding to anti-social behaviour, to safeguard our community and investigate crime, with extra policing patrols in key areas at key times.
Local teams set up under a gazebo in line with the Truro Farmers market to provide reassurance and crime prevention advice to residents.
the team have increased visits to the schools and officers have been out on foot in Mount Hawke, St Agnes and Perranporth very positive feedback has been received from the local community .

Cuppa with a Copper
PC Lovell along with PCSO Conway & TSO Graham attended age concern coffee morning in Perranporth. It was a really good turn out and well reserved. Lots of promotional work was conducted regarding home security, reporting of Anti Social Behaviour, staying safe online & scams. All of these subjects resulted in a few follow up home fire safety checks and crime prevention advice at the home.

Anti-Social behaviour & Youth Engagement
The PERRANPORTH Neighbourhood team are committed to tackling Anti-Social Behaviour and seek resolutions to identified ASB issues. Officers will patrol hot spots to prevent disorder and offer a visible presence to deter offending behaviour. The NPT team work closely with partner agencies and will look to take positive action when necessary and through the ASB escalation process in accordance with the Cornwall Council ASB priorities. We will look to engage with the youth, listen to their concerns and strive to prevent offending through diversion and early intervention.

Vulnerability reduction
We focus on safeguarding the vulnerable by committing to working closely with partner agencies to identify and protect individuals within our community. We have an officer dedicated as a safeguarding lead and the entire team work with schools, social services, housing and other support agencies to prevent harm to vulnerable people in our are both old and young.
