Anti social behaviour in Ivybridge town

While out on patrols on the eve of Friday the 20th Sept, a group of males and females approx 13-15yrs were spoken too regarding their behaviour, one young person in particular was given very strong words on how to conduct themselves when in the area.

Youth Club will begin this evening 20/09/2024 after the summer holidays, Neighbourhood Beat Officers will be out on foot around the town and in particular Victoria Park.  The last two weeks have shown an increase in high level anti social behaviour in and around the town.  The group is a mixture of young males and females.  Our plan is to engage and where necessary take details of anyone who is causing the public distress. These young people will be taken home and parents will be spoken too.

Large groups of youths out around the town on Friday evenings, the majority were great to engage with.  Discussed with the groups about noise levels and hanging around outside the Co-op as they can appear intimidating when in large groups which they understood.

Patrols to attend Woolwell area where residents are concerned of growing anti social behaviour outside the Woolwell centre and surrounding local stores, Officers to engage with local youths and try to ascertain the problem.

The summer holidays so far have been exceptional and the majority of the young people we have engaged with have been fantastic, chatty and polite, a real pleasure.

As we start the Summer holidays the first few weeks are often fairly reserved / quiet due to family holidays away.  Patrols will carry on as normal however at times we may be called to areas of demand such as Salcombe, Kingsbridge etc.

09/07/2024  -  The youth club has now stopped for the summer.

Building positive relationships with our young residents in the South Hams.

Visits to Schools, pre schools, Clubs and generally when out on patrols.

Ongoing engagement with youths around the town and areas in the evenings.

Friday can be our problem night due to Youth night, although this is a positive for the young people it is also a freedom night and they are allowed to be outside of the club.  This in turn can cause issues between large groups.

Issue Date Wednesday 25th September 2024

Issue Date Friday 20th September 2024

Update: 28 August 2024 - 28/08/2024

Action Date Friday 20th September 2024

Shoplifting

Prolific shoplifter detained this week and all goods recovered, enquiries are ongoing at this time.  Patrol feet on the ground and around the town.

Target hardening on offenders and liaising with our local stores to continue, pro active arrests to offenders caught.

The local stores, Co-op and Tesco have started to employ Security guards intermittently.  We will continue to work on prolific offenders.

Ongoing investigations with some of our prolific offenders and positive identifications.  We still suffer as every area will do with thefts involving persons from out of the area.

Our current priority is to reduce the amount of Alcohol shoplifting and reduce ASB in Ivybridge.  This is by pro-active patrols / body worn video and working with the Housing association where our main problem has stemmed from.

09/07/2024 - Shoplifting continues to be an intermittent problem, The Co-op seems to be a constant target and over the last weekend the company employed security for four days, one shoplifter caught.

22/06/2024 - Ongoing issues, background work going on at this time.

19/05/2024 - 2 known offenders have been arrested for theft offences and enquiries are ongoing at this time. Retail staff, police and public to carry on working together to deter further offending.

27/04/2024  Prolific offenders still targeting the local supermarkets, ongoing enquiries and strategies work in progress.

Prolific offenders will be very brazen in their attempts and thefts, public vigilance is key to receiving reports.

Ongoing problems in our local supermarkets / stores of theft of high value items such as meat joints, spirits, crates of alcohol.

Most thefts are of items that can be sold on quickly and we urge the public to report of suspicious behaviour to the staff so they can contact us.  We would not advise people to take their own course of action or put themselves in any danger.

Issue Date Friday 20th September 2024

High visibility patrols at key times.

The majority of our schools are now back after the summer, making school times busy with the influx of vehicles and coaches and young people on mass, high visibility patrols at this time.

03/09/2024 - Last day of the school holidays for some.  Morning and afternoon patrols will commence tomorrow around the school times and ongoing throughout the day on all areas of our patch.  Good luck to all starting a new year in school, college and Uni.

Neighbourhood will be assisting at the Dartmouth Regatta this week but will still patrol as and when we are back in Ivybridge.

Patrols have been on going, we have helped out Salcombe due to their population growth in the Summer months.  The riots that occurred over the last week have thankfully not impacted our team but many Officers were put on 12 hour shifts over this time to make sure we had the resources and back up that would be required if needed.

High viz patrols throughout the summer months, this may be in different areas of the South Hams depending on demand, as you can imagine our coastal towns can double in size.

09/07/2024 - As the school year comes to an end and the GCSE students have now finished it has been relatively quiet at key times.  General patrols always ongoing.

22/06/2024 - recurring priority - GCSE students have now finished for the summer so footfall not as busy in the main priority times.

19/05/2024 - A continuing priority.

27/04/2024 - Continued regular patrols in and around our area on foot and in patrol vehicles, high visible presence.

High priority is for Officers and PCSOs to be out particularly on foot and vehicle patrols around schools and villages early mornings / school times before and after / lunchtimes.

Officers to be readily available to the public should there be any incidents or concerns.
