Neighbourhood Priorities

Shoplifting

Sadly, we are still seeing shoplifting offences continue across Dartmouth and the wider South Hams area. Officers are continuing to work with various partners to reduce offending, increase reporting rates and also drive up convictions for those found guilty. We are also working with the Local Authority to obtain Civil Orders against persistent offenders where they come to our attention in the form of Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices.

Alcohol and Drug related Anti-Social Behaviour

Summertime is well and truly on the way, this means one thing - event season! Events taking place in around Dartmouth start to build now as the weather gets better and people head to the area. As a result of some of these activities, we see an increase in mainly alcohol related anti-social behaviour. The Dartmouth Neighbourhood Team will be carrying out proactive patrols at these events to prevent incidents happening and to take relevant enforcement actions where they do! We would like to encourage people to drink responsibly and enjoy your days!

Road Safety

During the Summer, sadly we see an increase in drivers of vehicles consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel. Dartmouth and our surrounding Villages have a wide variety of road infrastructure from country lanes to dual carriageway and although safe, we believe that any death or serious injury is one too many.  The team are currently carrying out drink drive operations not only in the evening but also early mornings. Drivers believe that they are fine the morning after a night out, however alcohol remains in your system for a lot longer than you think and so you may still be over the legal limit!

Update: 17 March 2024 - Arrest

Neighbourhood team Officers have been carrying out pro-active stop checks of vehicles in and around Dartmouth. On the evening of Saturday 16th March 2024 a vehicle was stopped and the driver detained. In custody he provided a positive sample at twice the legal limit! He will be attending Court in the next couple of weeks and is looking at a lengthy ban!
