Neighbourhood Priorities
Anti Social Behaviour- Camelford Skate Park
Police have been made aware of some Anti-Social behaviour and damage being caused in and around the Camelford Skate Park.
As a result this area will be targeted by local Police patrols which will be incorporated into our existing High Visibility Patrol priority.
The aim will be to disrupt anti-social behaviour in the area and prevent further damage.
Graffiti and Damage will not be tolerated in any of our areas and robust action will be taken against offenders where evidence allows. CCTV covers Camelford Skate Park and this will aid in the prevention and detection of crime.

Update: 20 December 2022 - Camelford Skate Park
I am pleased to say that with regular patrols from Neighbourhood Police Officers, regular engagement from the council youth worker and improvements made to the skate park by the local council, that the antisocial behaviour within the youth hut and the skate park seems to be resolved, at least for now. With a new venture soon to be in place at the Skate Park, the area will continue to develop and if anyone notices any more ASB in this area please contact Camelford Police via the NPT Contact page.

High Visibility Patrol
From January 2022 and through the rest of the Winter and Spring period, Camelford NPT will be concentrating on High Visibility Patrols within our area and welcome approach from members of public with any specific causes of concern.

Update: 11 July 2022 - High Visibility Patrols
Camelford Policing team have been out regularly within our community over the last couple of months since our last update. Feedback into police presence has been positive and most recently PC Skinner and PC Hardie have visited Boscastle for the famous Duck Race, Tintagel Castle grounds, Davidstow where there was a Heritage Crime meeting about the historical importance of the area. We have also visited local shops and businesses and visited local school fete's, taking part in community events.
We have also been completing our regular normal patrols in our towns and villages.
We are likely to see a busy (and hopefully hot) summer this year so this priority will remain in place throughout the Summer and will be reviewed at the end of August.
Update: 08 March 2022 - Priority Update
Patrols have continued throughout February and into March and despite a period of leave for local officers, feedback continues to be positive in relation to proactive patrols and the amount of visits to our communities.
Update: 08 February 2022 - High Visibility Patrol
High Visibility Patrols have been commenced throughout Camelford Policing area and feedback to officers has been very positive including when on foot patrol and speed monitoring.
Speed monitoring has taken place at a number of the larger villages in the area and words of advice and education has been given to a number of motorists in relation to speed- unfortunately many of the persons spoken to are local, so please watch your speed and have respect for where you live and your friends and family.
Many local businesses and members of public have been visited and spoken to, and again the feedback has been extremely positive as to the feeling of safety with regular Police patrols.
Patrols will continue throughout February and March and this priority will be reviewed at the start of April 2022- with the likelyhood that it will continue into the Summer Policing Plan for the area.

Dogs Worrying Livestock.
It is a focus of Camelford Police to target incidents of Dogs Worrying Livestock, to educate members of public in relation to the associated criminal elements and the risk to livestock from dogs which are not under owners control and to encourage the reporting of such incidents.

Update: 11 July 2022 - High Visibility Patrols
Dogs worrying Livestock continues to be a priority within the area and as part of our High Visibility Patrols within the Camelford area we continue to speak to dog owners and land owners, educating them on the law in relation to their dogs and the livestock.
Again, generally feedback has been positive with many members of public willing to engage and talk with officers.
Davidstow remains a high target for this priority due to the amount of livestock in the area, but other areas also continue to receive our attention.

Update: 08 March 2022 - Priority Update
Patrols have continued through February and into March with words of advice being issued to members of public and a criminal investigation into one dog worrying livestock matter.
Patrols have been positively received and it has been good to see many members of public taking responsibility for their dogs in areas where there is livestock and keeping their dogs on leads.
Update: 08 February 2022 - High Visibility Patrol
High Visibility Patrols have continued to commence throughout Camelford Policing Area in specific locations where Dogs worrying livestock is identified as likely- such as Davidstow Moors. A number of people spoken to and leaflets issued highlighting legal proceedings around Dogs worrying livestock legislation and what this means should a prosecution be bought against an individual and the impact that this crime has on farmers and local businesses. Persons spoken to thus far have been very understanding and supportive of police with positive comments.
Update: 07 January 2022 - Priority Update
Upon review in January 2022, Camelford NPT will be continuing this priority through the rest of the Winter and Spring period.
Patrols throughout areas of livestock have been regular and a number of leaflets and advice given to many members of public within areas of concern- this has been well received and we will continue to prioritise this in the locations where it is an identified risk.

Positive action has taken place regarding drug dealing
Last year the Camelford Police Neighborhood Team assisted with the execution of several warrants obtained under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Drugs were found at addresses in Camelford itself and several of the surrounding villages.

Partnership Working

Uninsured/Untaxed vehicles
To deal positively with cars that are not insured or have no Vehicle Excise Licence by both prosecuting the owners/drivers and also by removing them from roads and public places by use of Police Powers. It is particularly useful if persons can tell us who uses the vehicle, and at what times it is likely to be driven.

Anti-social Behaviour in Camelford Town Centre
After measures were taken earlier this year to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) in Camelford Town Centre, Camelford Neighbourhood Policing Team are keen not to let any form of ASB ruin other people's enjoyment of the School Summer Holidays.
Although we have not had anywhere near the number of reports that we received in the Spring of this year, we are keen to deal with any isolated incidents at an early stage to prevent longer term problems from emerging.
If any members of the public have concerns surrounding these issues, we would urge them to call 999 if a crime is ongoing or contact us via a slower time method for a non-urgent enquiry. Update: 07 January 2022 - Priority Update
Despite a warm and sunny Summer period and a general increase in demand across the Launceston Sector, reports of crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) within the Camelford and surrounding district has remained stable and low in number.
Over the course of the past month, we have worked with numerous other agencies to resolve some incidents of ASB. Notably, we have:
- completed visible foot patrols of what have been identified as hotspot areas, where duty commitments have allowed.
- completed mobile patrols of the sub sector to provide a visible reassurance to the community, where duty commitments have allowed.
- issued a further Acceptable Behaviour Contract alongside our partners at LiveWest Housing to another individual in Camelford.
- offered further support and issued a Stage One ASB Reminder Letter to an individual in Tintagel, thereby taking them along the escalation process.
- completed a number of visits to concerned and vulnerable residents in the Camelford area with the Cornwall Council Housing Team to ensure they are suitably safeguarded and their needs are addressed.
- contacted Cornwall Council about inconsiderate parking in Camelford and Delabole and requested targeted parking enforcement.
- worked alongside Cornwall Council Highways and Camelford Town Council to resolve a specific parking issue in Camelford Town Centre.
- worked alongside Sir James Smith Community School in Camelford after the Summer holidays to ensure that staff are prepared to receive students that have been in contact with us over the Summer months and that they have appropriate support in place for the new school year.
- worked alongside Camelford Town Council in the planned erection of new signs encouraging people to report ASB in Enfield Park.
- worked alongside our colleagues in response policing to ensure that officers are suitably equipped to deal with incidents of ASB in hotspot areas.
We will continue in our endeavours to tackle ASB moving forwards and, as ever, encourage members of the public to get in contact with us to report any incidents or concerns that they may have.
Update: 07 January 2022 - NOVEMBER 2019 Update
Camelford police have been receiving fewer and fewer reports of ASB committed by youths in Camelford. This could partly be down to external factors such as returning to school, the weather and the darker evenings. Camelford Police have also been upping the number of high-visability patrols conducted in the parks of the town. We have been proactively responded and investigate incidents reported to us and have been working closely with the town council to try and resolve these issues.
Camelford Police also wrote up a 'Direction to Leave' leaflet, utilising our powers under Section 35 Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, under which we can require a person committing or likely to commit anti-social behaviour, crime or disorder to leave a designated area for up to 48 hours. Fortunately since the map of the area was drawn up, Camelford Police have not had to exercise these powers. We have not had a police incident log to either of the parks since 04/09/2019 and there have been no recorded crimes since 08/08/2019.
Update: 07 January 2022 - Closure
Camelford Police have closed this as a priority due to the large drop in the number of ASB incidents being reported.
Update: 07 January 2022 - *Summer Update*
Over the Summer holidays, Camelford Neighbourhood Policing Team has been keen to monitor, control and reduce the amount of anti-social behaviour in Camelford and the other towns and villages across our area.
Indeed, in the last week or so alone, alongside LiveWest Housing we have drawn up an Acceptable Behaviour Contract with a resident in Camelford; alongside Cornwall Council's ASB Team we have served a ASB Stage 1 Warning to a female in Tintagel; and we have also written a warning letter to a male involved in anti-social driving, again, in Camelford. These cases will now be monitored going forwards, the individuals involved supported and the matters escalated, if appropriate.
We have also drawn up two further ASB Escalation Warnings and will be looking to issue these over the next week or so. In addition, alongside Cornwall Housing, we are planning a day of action in the near future to address further anti-social behaviour in their tenanted properties in the local area.
Alongside this more explicit action, we have also attended and provided reassurance to numerous members of the community who have experienced specific issues, inputted intelligence so that information is collated centrally and provided a visible presence, with foot patrols in local hotspots.
On 20th August 2019 in particular, PC Ives and Sgt Harvey attended an informal "drop in" session at Camelford Library giving members of the public the opportunity to express any concerns they may have. The event was well attended and further plans for a similar future event are in progress.

Possession, use and supply of controlled drugs in Camelford Town Centre and surrounding housing estates
During the course of our duties and engagement with our communities, we have become increasingly aware of concern surrounding the possession and use of drugs, particularly in Camelford.
Alongside our efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour, we are now working hard to target those using and supplying drugs on the streets of Camelford and surrounding areas.
We will be working be various partners to progress this priority including our response policing colleagues, traffic policing officers, force intelligence officers, local schools, Cornwall Council Housing, Cornwall Council ASB Team, Camelford Town Council and the Camelford Community Network.
Nonetheless, we still need members of the public to help us to tackle this threat to our community. We need information about people who you suspect might be involved in drugs activity, vehicles used by them and any addresses they might be using to store drugs and the proceeds of crime.
This isn't just a Police issue, it's a community one, so contact us and let us know about any suspicious activity or where you have any concerns that a family member or friend might be at risk due to taking drugs.

Update: 05 January 2022 - Initial Update
As has been noted by our superiors, the overarching title of this priority seems to be quite a big task; however, over the past few weeks, Camelford Neighbourhood Team have worked alongside other agencies and concerned residents to "scan" the area and build a more detailed picture of the locations, persons and vehicles involved in the use and supply of controlled drugs.
This has involved letter drops, joint agency visits and collaboration with our colleagues across the Policing family.
With this in mind, the amount of information that we have received about such activities from members of the public has increased; however, we are always keen to gather more intelligence! Although, we understand that in some communities there is a reluctance to speak to Police and skepticism about why immeidate action is not being taken; however, in reality, we can only act if we know about a problem and sometimes we may gather a large amount of intelligence before we complete a bigger operation.
As such, we will always encourage members of the public to get in touch with us calling 101 (or 999 in an emergency), by email on [email protected] or via Crime Stoppers.
Nonetheless, we have found that drug use often goes hand-in-hand with anti-social behaviour. As such, on Wednesday 3rd July, PC Ives from Camelford Neighbourhood Policing Team, joined PC Turner-Moore, from the Youth Interventions Team in visting Sir James Smith's School in Camelford. Over the course of the morning , a number of interactive inputs were delivered to all young people in years 7-10 about controlled drugs. These sessions focused on "myth busting", "gateway drugs" and the potential long term implications for young people if they are found in possession of controlled substances. These sessions very well received by students and staff alike.
Update: 05 January 2022 - NOVEMBER 2019 Update
Camelford Police are continuing to monitor and develop intelligence. We have been using a Police Drone with heat monitoring equipment to identify potential addresses.
Update: 05 January 2022 - Further Update
Over the course of the past few weeks, Camelford Neighbourhood Policing Team have continued in our attempts to target and deal with those who are responsible for drug related activity in Camelford and the surrounding area.
This has included further letter drops in "hotspot" areas and the inputting of great deals of intelligence for further action by our colleagues across the Policing Family.
We will continue to work with other agencies and members of the public to tackle this threat to our community.
Update: 05 January 2022 - Further update
Over the course of the past few weeks, we have continued to develop intelligence about potential drug activity. This has included the completion of a number of "letter drops" encouraging members of the public to contact us should they have any concerns about any individual(s), vehicle(s) or address(es) and the development of sources of information.
In order to take further action, we require more intelligence to corroborate what we are being told and encourage members of the public to contact us as per the ways listed above.

Speeding Motorists and Traffic Offences outside of local Primary Schools
Camelford Police have received multiple complaints about speeding vehicles and traffic offences in Camelford, Otterham, Warstow and Marshgate - particularly outside of local schools.
Although in some cases, such a issue boils down to inappropriate speed for the location rather than breaking the speed limit, Camelford Police are determined to ensure the safety of all members of the community, especially vulnerable road users such as children.
Working together with partners from the Police traffic department, the Special Constabulary, local schools and speedwatch volunteers, we intend to run a number of operations over the coming months to target this particular issue.

Update: 07 January 2022 - Initial Update
Over the past few weeks, we have worked hard to address this priority, given the particular concern it generates in the local area.
Although enquiries have been made with many schools about the possibility of them assisting us with "School Speedwatch" during the Summer Term; unfortunately, many already have a full timetable of events and activities for the children as we approach the Summer holidays.
That being said, on Monday 1st July 2019, PC Ives, PCSO Dodd and SC Bridgman attended Otterham Primary School and conducted a speedwatch with selected pupils in Years 4-6 in Marshgate. During the course of a number of hours, a number of speeding motorists were interviewed by the panel of pupils, encouraging them to reflect on the potential implications of their actions.
It is our intention to re-visit Otterham in the near future and extend this initiative to other schools in the area. Indeed, enquiries have already been made with Sir James Smith's School in Camelford about the possibility of conducting checks on Sportsmans Road in September.
What is more, Community Speedwatch has also been active locally. On Friday 21st June 2019, volunteers in St Teath conducted checks which led 8 warning letters to be sent to those who were driving too fast. As ever, we are always looking for volunteers to aid this initiative and welcome any enquiries to [email protected]
Finally, as we continue onwards to the Summer holidays, Camelford Neighbourhood Team intend to visit as many schools in the area during drop off and pick up times as possible to deter people from parking inconsiderately or committing other traffic offences. As ever, this will be dictated by other more immediate commitments we have, but please feel free to have a chat with us and air any concerns you may have when you see us.
Update: 07 January 2022 - Holding update
During the course of July 2019, Camelford Neighbourhood Policing Team visited a number of primary schools across our patch at "dropping off","picking up" times and for specific end of term events. Although we were unable to visit all the primary schools in our area due to other immediate commitments, we will endeavour to do so in September, as it appears to be a really good way of networking with staff, parents and the children. Indeed, two speedwatches are already planned for the new academic year, as is a visit to Launceston Police Station for one school!
In any case, during our visits we were pleased to report that parking was generally good and suitable words of advice was given where it fell below par. What is more, a number of enquiries have now been sent by the Neighbourhood Policing Team regarding reducing the speed limit to 20mph near to Otterham Primary School, where people seemingly tended to abide by the speed limit but not by the conditions. We will keep you updated as to the results of these inquiries!
We will close this update over the Summer Holidays, being sure to continue to address traffic issues as and when we see them during the course of our patrols.

Prevention of Sheep Worrying by dogs
Camelford Police are currently running a campaign to help reduce livestock worrying on and around the Moor (Davidstow/Roughtor/Crowdy) and are issuing leaflets to dog walkers over the coming weekends. Police will again today be patrolling the Moor and handing out leaflets this weekend. Please be mindful when walking dogs on the Moor, especially at this time of year when ewes are in lamb. All dogs should be on a lead or under close control, especially when livestock is closeby. Dogs chasing livestock can cause injury or suffering and in the case of ewes, can cause them to abort. Farmers or any authorised person may kill or injure a dog in order to protect the livestock if the dog is worrying or about to worry the livestock.

Update: 29 April 2020 - Day of Action
A Day of Action took place on Davidstow Moor and Rough Tor on the weekend of 23/24th March in which many persons were spoken to and given advice.

Damage in Enfield Park, toilets and on-going anti social behaviour
Police are currently investigating complaints of Criminal Damage in and around Enfield Park, to fencing, play equipment and the public toilets.
The latest damage was caused at around 1530 hrs on Sunday 3rd March 2019. Police are asking for anyone using the Gents toilet or were in the vacinity on Sunday and who may have witnessed this antisocial behaviour, or seen anyone acting suspiciously, to please come forward.
Over the last few week, posts in the park have been thrown in the river, fences and gates damaged, the scout hut cladding damaged and planters at the bandstand distroyed. We are following a lead and are focussed on pursuing those responsible for causing the damage to facilities provided for all to use. We are determined to protect the reputation of Camelford as one of the safest towns in the Country. This mindless antisocial behaviour by the minority is totally unacceptable and something we are treating very seriously.
A youth has now admitted to damaging the toilets and a file has been sent to the Youth Offending Service. An action plan is being developed to include him paying for the damage.
Another youth has been interviewed in relation to a number of ongoing incidents.

Update: 07 January 2022 - Situation Update
Following on from the success of Camelford Town Council's Four Days of Fun and increased high visibility patrols around Enfield Park, there has been a significant decrease in calls for service from this area. Indeed, between 1st June and 18th June, there has only been one Police dispatch log to Enfield Park.
Alongside this, positive feedback has been received from Camelford Town Council and members of the public, who have commented on how they feel safer with a more visible policing presence and how ASB has decreased within the Town Centre.
In terms of the specific reported anti-social behaviour, a number of matters are now with the Neighbourhood Team Leader for "gatekeeping" with a view for progression, in consultation with the Youth Offending Team.
This matter will be monitored over the next few weeks and, if the situation remains the same, the priority will be closed.
Update: 07 January 2022 - Primary Tasking and Four Days of Fun
As a result of ongoing anti-social behaviour (ASB) in the area, a "primary tasking" has been created. This ensures that between attending dispatch calls for service and dealing with crime enquiries, all response officers within Launceston Sector have been asked to actively patrol Enfield Park at some point during the course of their duties with the intention of engaging with members of the public, providing a reassuring presence and deterring young people from persisting in criminal behaviours.
What is more, during Camelford Town Council's "Four Days of Fun" (end of May / start of June), Camelford Neighbourhood Team completed a number of high visibility patrols and attended a number of different activities, engaging with multifarious members of the public. Alongside this, a s.35 dispersal area was set up under the Anti Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, which allowed officers to exclude anyone causing, or likely to cause, other people harassment, alarm or distress from Enfield Park and surrounding areas for a set period of time. This was well publicised and there was no need to issue anyone with this notice.
Update: 07 January 2022 - Closing update
Again, given the continuation of our "primary tasking" and high visibility patrols in the Town Centre, we have seen a vast reduction in anti-social behaviour in Enfield Park over the last few months. Indeed, between 18th June and 8th July 2019, there have been 0 Police response dispatch logs to this area.
As such, we will now close this priority. Nonetheless, we will continue to monitor the Town Centre and ensure that the problem has not been diverted to a different location.
We thank the other people and agencies that we have worked with to resolve this matter including (but not limited to) Camelford Town Council, the Youth Interventions Team, the Youth Offending Team, Cornwall Council and the Specialist Problem Solving Team.

Sheep Worrying
Camelford Police are concerned about the number of reports of dogs worrying sheep that have been reported - expechially on Davidstow Moor and Rough Tor.
We wish to encourage farmers to report such incidents and we are also planning a hold information events on Davidstow Moor and also on the road to Rough Tor

Increase in Dwelling Burglaries
From 8th December 2018 there has been a sudden increase in dwelling burglaries along the North Coast from St Teath to Bude. Holiday Homes and properties that appear unoccupied at night are being targeted. Jewellery and cash are of primary interest to the offenders. Widemouth Bay and Crooklets have both been a focus of such crimes.
Several vehicles were seen in the area, these were all from well out of the Devon and Cornwall Police Force area. The vehicles all came into and left Cornwall on the same day, enquiries were made with the registered keepers but police were unable to prove that the vehicles were linked to the crimes.

02/01/19 Press release warning communities of the rise in recorded burglaries with crime prevention advice regarding leaving a main light on in a room with the curtains closed, and reviewing security, concealing cash and valuables in less obvious places, avoiding the mattress and sock drawer.
Local police have increased patrols in affected areas and crime prevention advice is being given to potential victims. The series has been allocated to detectives to investigate but community help would be very welcome.
Residents are being asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity via 101 telephone number, or 999 if a crime is in progress.

Speeding Vehicles
Your local police are investigating reports of speeding vehicles through the areas of Camelford, Otterham, Warbstow and Marshgate. The nature of the speeding firstly needs be identified, as speeding is quite often a perception not necessarily reality, and often the issue is one of inappropriate speed for the location, but within the speed limit.

Vulnerable People
A large amount of police time is currenty devoted to safeguarded a number of vulnerable people in Camelford and outlying areas. Mental health, drugs and age related incidents require a significant input from the police. We are linking in with our partner agencies to jointly problem solve some incredibly challenging situations in the hope it will reduce demand on the police, freeing up time to spend on other priorities.

Over the course of the past month, Camelford Police have supported and safeguarded a number of vulnerable people across "our patch", which stretches from St. Teath to St. Gennys. This has included engaging with Mental Health Services, Cornwall Housing, the Victim Care Unit and the NHS to name but a few other agencies. As a result of our involvement, this has allowed various members of the public to get their help and support they need to move forwards.

Shoplifiting in Camelford
There has been a sharp rise in shoplifting incidents in the The Town Centre. It is believed local stores are being targetted by school age youths in the evenings and weekends. Police are employing various tactics to identify those responsible and ensure those premises targetted are improving security.

Damage to Enfield Park
Police are investigating a number of reports of damage being caused to the play equipment and other property in and around Enfield Park in Camelford. Youths have been witnessed casuing some of the damage. Police are appealing for witnesses to the damage and increasing patrols in the area. Police are also liaising with local schools to highlight the problem.

Speeding Vehicles
Camelford Police have received complaints about speeding vehicles in various locations.
Community Speedwatches are already operating in the Delabole and St Teath areas.
A Community Speedwatch is due to go live in Camelford within the next few weeks.
If sufficient volunteers come forward then Community Speedwatches will also be set up in Warbstow and Crackington.

Underage Drinking in Tintagel
Camelford Police have received many complaints about underage drinking in the pubs in Tintagel. We are making regular visits to the pubs in Tintagel to enforce the laws regarding the legal age to drink alcohol in Licensed Premises
