Update

Happy Easter!

Patrol teams have been hard at work across the holidays as reportedly some 400,000 visitors came down for the Bank Holiday weekend to visit Devon and Cornwall. Typically the weather was not the best, however we hope they had a good time nonetheless. We continue to work hard in line with the priorities that I have previously highlighted to you, and are plugging away at various pieces of planned activity. This has included a successful Drugs Warrant in Wadebridge, as well as swift prosecution of a male from Bodmin committing Criminal Damages to vehicles.

I must also lay reference to the verdicts of the trial from Operation Limbas, the murder of Michael Riddiough-Allen, in Bodmin last year. As we approach the anniversary of those tragic events, sentencing is scheduled and we will await the results of the hard teamwork from the investigation teams. We continue to try and increase our visibility in the sector at various events and patrols in targeted areas. With this in mind, we have a new member joining the Wadebridge Neighbourhood Team next week, which I hope will help in time for the increased demand across the summer.

As I mention Summer, our schedule is ramping up and we will be present at a number of events across the period. Most notable of those are Obby Oss in Padstow in May and then the Royal Cornwall Show in June. Please do come and say hello if you see us. Our Facebook page is regularly updated with what the local Neighbourhood Team are up to so please check it out!

Update: 08 April 2024 - Arrest and Drugs Seized

On Friday 5th April two males were arrested and drugs seized following a proactive operation.

Officers from the Bodmin Neighbourhood Team and Force Support Group acted on intelligence from the community about suspected illegal activity.

The Misuse of Drugs Act warrant was carried out at a property near the town centre where we seized around £800 in cash and a quantity of Class A & B drugs.

Two males from Nottingham, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs and they remain in police custody.

Sector Inspector Adam Stonehill said: "This was a great result for the team this morning and is an example of how we can act on information from the community.

"Drugs supply and the associated crimes have such a negative impact on people and communities and we won’t tolerate this behaviour here.

"We will continue to take a robust approach and act on information about suspected illegal activity, so if something is happening where you live, please report it."

Priorities

As we come into Spring 2024, our priorities in Bodmin Sector remain the same as the second half of 2023.

We managed to build some great momentum across the Sector with some excellent results in the latter part of the year, but I think this emphasises the need to keep on going with our current objectives.

Therefore, the current Policing Priorities for Bodmin Sector are as follows;

Serious Violence

The tragic events in Bodmin of last year require this priority to remain, as we continue to work closely with partners to make our communities safer with various preventative tactics to reduce serious violence and the impact that it has upon our local society. We have been paying particular attention to Knife Crime and Youth related violence in our community, and shall continue to do so.

 Persistent and Severe ASB

Anti-Social Behaviour is something we are passionate about in Devon and Cornwall Police as a whole. We work closely with partners to problem-solve local issues, to ensure that everyone feels comfortable within their local community.

 Drugs

Drugs are directly linked to both violence and ASB in our community, and clearly contribute towards these other two priorities. We are working hard to build our intelligence picture to and reduce drug related crimes on our streets. This is a national issue, identified by local problems, and have a real community impact. We rely heavily upon community based intelligence, and what you see could be the missing piece to our puzzle. So please either report anonymously to Crime Stoppers, or directly to Devon and Cornwall Police.

Update: 04 June 2024 - Update

Royal Cornwall Show is nearly here!

If you are planning on attending the show from Thursday 6 June- Saturday 8 June, make sure you plan your route in advance as there will be a temporary 30MPH speed limit in place along the A39 at Hals Grave and we expect there will be heavy traffic in the area across all three days of the show.

We encourage those attending the show to pre-plan their journeys home and nominate a designated sober driver before attending the show in a bid to ensure our roads are kept safe and free from drink drivers. We take a zero-tolerance approach to drink driving, and road safety officers will be patrolling the local road network to keep everyone safe.

We urge everyone to be mindful of their behaviour, and we would like to reiterate we will not tolerate anti-social behaviour. The team will be carrying out high visibility foot patrols throughout each day of the show, and in the surrounding areas after the show finishes each day.

We hope everyone has an enjoyable time at the Royal Cornwall Show, and please do come and say hello to us if you see us there!
