Drug activity and associated anti-social behaviour at New Street and Peter Street, Whitehaven.

Information from residents.

High visibility and plain clothes patrols to be carried out in the area.

Positive action will be taken to deter offenders including stop searches where appropriate.

Liaise with local social landlords to take tenancy action if appropriate against any offenders.

Streetsafe survey to be conducted with local businesses and residents to establish full extent of the issues.

3x females arrested following reports of a violent disorder on Peter Street, still under investigation.

2x males arrested and charged for section 4 public order following reports of fight on New Street.

Regular mobile Police desks held in the New Street and town centre area over June and July to allow residents to voice their concerns.

1x male charged with three criminal damages in relation to graffiti around the town centre area.

2 males arrested for offences following an incident on College Street, investigation ongoing.

VAWG (Violence against Women and Girls) drop in police desk being held at McDonalds restaurant, 10am-11am, Sunday 4th August.

6th August – Section 23 Misuse Drugs Act warrant executed on empty premise on Lowther Street, cannabis farm located, and two males charged with cultivating cannabis.

Anti-Social Behaviour caused by youths around McDonalds and Bridges Retail Park.

The affected area has since been extended to incorporate the majority of Whitehaven town centre.

We have met with businesses such as McDonalds and agreed strategies to cope with large groups of youths while maintaining staff safety.

Police have liaised with the local youth provision to arrange outreach work for the coming months, to engage with Youths causing or likely to cause Anti-Social Behaviour in this location

Two dispersal orders were granted on the 19th December and 6th January to tackle reports of ASB on those evenings

Dispersal order granted on 14 April 2024 several children dispersed from area.

Case referred to the local focus Hub to provide a multi-agency response

Several youths have been arrested for criminal offences such as criminal damage in recent weeks, investigations are continuing to try to identify further individuals involved in this unwanted behaviour.

Police have built good working relationships with town centre businesses over recent months to help reduce incidences of youth ASB and advised on crime prevention initiatives to help safeguard their properties.

9th August – report of racial comment being made towards security staff at Morrisons, two male youths were identified and will be dealt with through youth ASB referral processes for intervention work.
