The residents of Ormsgill, Hawcoat and Parkside have highlighted road safety as the priority they would like the Police to address. This largely centres around speeding motorists, parking and road safety around schools.

Issue Date Thursday 2nd March 2023

A hotspot location has been identified on and around Abbey Road and Schneider Road, with a common theme young drivers going too fast. The whole ward is heavily populated and the roads are generally stipulated as 30mph or 40mph so this is something that needs addressing.
To tackle these issues, the Neighbourhood Policing Team have arranged Police Desks at Omsgill Community Centre and Furness General Hospital, please check our engagement page, if any residents would like to discuss this or any issues further and this will allow us to gain more understanding of the offences and locations. We will then be visible on the roadside with various speed awareness devices and to stop and advise drivers of their responsibilities. Where necessary those found to be breaking the law will be prosecuted.
We will also be present in local schools to emphasise and teach road safety to children.
The next quarterly Police, Partners and Communities Together (PACT) survey will be a measure of our success in reducing road safety as a priority for Ormsgill, Hawcoat and Parkside.

Action Date Thursday 30th March 2023
